6 Miles in the Neighborhhood

I wasn't able to make the 5 mile group run yesterday. My original plan was to go to Oyster Creek park to do my mileage, but decided to stick around the neighborhood. I got out at 7:00am, walked my usual route by the lake and meandered around the neighborhood. I was out for 1.5 hours and figured that I did close to 6 miles, walking.

40 Minutes in the Drizzle

I got out early today, just before the heavy rains. There was a light mist of drizzle the whole time I was out and it felt really good. I walked with inconsistent spurts of running mixed in.

40 Minutes and 3 miles of Hills

A bunch of FBFers met at the Town Center garage for hill training. We went up and down the ramps in the garage and then around the parking lot and back into the garage. I did 3 laps, the faster folks did 4. I walked up and ran down, plus did intermittent running on the flat parts. Mark B. had cold towels waiting for us after the run - what a guy!

40 Minutes Walking

The weather was really pleasant this morning. I lengthened my regular route and did 40 minutes of walking. The paths were still pretty soggy and the lake level was high from all the rain. One of the really big pecan trees couldn't keep its roots in the ground and just tipped over. It was really sad to see.

4 Miles with FBF

The mileage for FBF was 4 this weekend. I really wanted to try to do at least 6 and possibly 8 - I guess I haven't let go of NY 100%. But I had a headache when I woke up and couldn't get going earlier than the 6:30am start. Bob and I walked together.

30 Minutes of Walking in the Rain

It started to drizzle as I walked outside. The sun was shining, so I continued on. I walked the entire 30 minutes. It was perfect. It never rained harder than a drizzle, so my whole training was like walking through a mister. My timing was perfect because an hour after I finished, the thunder and lightening started along with the driving rain, but by then I was safe inside.

30 Minutes In the Heat

I got out early enough so that the heat was not too big of a problem, but it's clear that the summer is upon us. I did inconsistent spurts of running for most of the 30 minutes. Am I a walker or a runner? - I don't even know for sure.

6 Miles in Oyster Creek Park

The sun was shining and nature was at its finest. There were rabbits, cardinals, blue jays, turtles, egrets and all sorts of bugs in the park this morning. It was also the first time I encountered the mowers in this park. They were focusing on the areas closest to the entries, so their presence was only a bit of a bother.
It was hot, but the sun felt good. I mostly walked, with bursts of running mixed in. It started to sprinkle during the last half mile and a rainbow appeared just as I completed my run.

30 Minutes on the Treadmill

It was pouring down rain, lightening and thundering when I got up at 5:45am, so I went back to bed. Same story at 8:00am, so I decided to wait until the evening to do my long run. The weather finally cleared up in the mid afternoon, but I wasn't able to make it out until 6:00pm. It started to rain as I walked down my driveway. I thought, "What's a little rain?", but my gut told me to turn back, and I did. It was a good choice because within 15 minutes the weather became fierce, with major thunder and lightening. I was on the treadmill when one hit close by and knocked the power out. I did manage to squeeze in 30 minutes, though. I'll try to do my long run tomorrow.

New FBF Season Opened Today

Today was the season opener for Fort Bend Fit. I arrived early to help with registration and never made it out. I'll go tomorrow. It was great seeing all the veterans and so many new faces. The level of anticipation and enthusiasm is energizing. I'm handling the Mentoring program again this year and hope to make some good matches.

And Yet Another 30 Minutes

It was another sunny morning and the mosquitoes were out in force again. I walked briskly for 30 minutes, working up a heavy sweat. Looking forward to the start of the Official FBF season this Saturday.

30 Minutes Fighting the Mosquitoes

I walked briskly for 30 minutes this morning, around 7:30am. The weather was cooler, but after 2 plus weeks of rain, the mosquitos were not and heavy. We haven't heard the spray trucks in the neighborhood which means they will continue to multiply. This morning I decided to do an experiment. I sprayed Deep Woods OFF on me from the waist up, and the OFF Family Skintastic from the waist down. Needless to say, I have tons on bites on my legs, but my upper body is bite-free. I think I know what I'll be using the rest of the season.

Saturday is the openning day for Fort Bend Fit. It will lots of fun to see the veterans and meet the new runners.

30 Minutes in the Heat

After all of the complaints of rain, the sun has finally started shining. But with it came the intense heat. It was close to 10:00am before I got out and it was really hot and humid. I ran in spurts, between light poles, park benches and street corners.
I think I'll try to get our earlier tomorrow. This was Tuesday and it's always tough to squeeze in a training.

This morning Bob and I met at Oyster Creek park. My goal was 6 miles, but it was really hot and humid and the park was flooded. The first bridge on the Northwest side was washed out, so we had to turn around after a half mile there, but were able to do the .75 leg to Dulles, 2 times, to and from, for a total of 4 miles.

The sun actually came out this morning, but there's rain forecast for all of next week. I think everyone is ready for a dry spell.

Feedom 5K

Today was the First Colony 5K. Lost Creek Park was flooded so the race route was changed and only totalled 2.6 miles. Bob and I walked mostly and finished in 37.46 minutes which equated to a 14.30 mile.

30 Minutes Mostly Walking

My weekly BNI meeting was cancelled due to the holiday week, so I got up early and did my training. The sun was bright, but the air was still cool. I mostly walked with a few spurts of running in the middle.
The Freedom 5K race is still on for tomorrow, although the big celebration and fireworks have been cancelled due to soggy park conditions. They must be changing the race route since it goes through a lot of the park area that's been impacted. I'm hoping the rain stays away until the race is over.

My Long Run Was short by 1.5 Miles

My intention this morning was to run 6 miles. I got to Oyster Creek Park at 7:00am. just after the rains had stopped. The skies seemed to be clearing. I took the 1.5 mile long route towards Lexinton and when I got to the last quarter mile, the bridge was submerged. I turned around and headed back to complete the loop, knowing that I would be short a half mile. I ran 1:00/1:00 intervals for about 45 minutes. It started to drizzle just as I was completing mile 4. I debating about continuing, recalling that one of our FBF members was struck by lightening last week in this very park, under the power lines, and was lucky to be able to tell the tale. I decided to run out another 1/2 mile since there was no thunder nor lightening. Though, as I approached the 1/4 mile marker, it began to thunder. I turned around and made it out of the park just as it started to pour. I decided to be happy with the fact that I had at least done 4.5 miles.
